The study area for this project and corresponding GIS data focuses on the southern portion of the White River National Forest. This area was selected because aspen is plentful in this region. According to the USDA website for the White River National Forest, this area is nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, with 2.3 million acres of recreational areas. Additionally, this area has been a significant source of wildlife habitat and supply for wood products.  The White River National Forest stretches from Meeker on the Northwest region to Aspen on to Southern portion. Aspen decline in this region can have significant effects on recreational activites.
