Introduction

Spill Weld County

Weld County is one of the largest counties with oil and natural gas production in the State of Colorado. This industry contributes a great deal to the economy of the county and state at large in terms of job creation and income generation. However one of the areas of major concern with this industry are the environmental implications of the activities that go into oil and gas production. Spills for one, contribute a lot to environmental degradation and thus this project seeks to provide insight to the following questions useful for future policy making decisions:

  • What are the exact locations of the spills in the county
  • What is the proximity of these spills to surface waters in the county
  • Identify areas of highest risk and concern

For our final project, we analyzed oil and gas well spills in Weld County in 2013. This consisted of collecting, reorganizing, mapping, and analyzing data previously collected and archived by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. For more information about this project, please review the page links on the left sidebar.
